Delhi’s Education Minister and MLA from Janakpuri, Ashish Sood today visited various Chhath Puja Ghats in his constituency, interacted with fasting women (vratdharis) and devotees, enquired about their well-being, and extended his heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Chhath Mahaparv.
Sood made an emotional appeal to all the devotees present, saying that the echoes of Chhathi Maiya ke Jai Kaar from Janakpuri should reach every place where their family members reside be it Patna, Buxar, Digha, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Mokama, Gaya, or Siwan in Bihar. Only then will it be known that this year, the festival of Chhath is being celebrated in Delhi’s Janakpuri with an unprecedented spirit of faith, joy, and unity.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for allowing the celebration of Chhath on the banks of the Yamuna after 12 years. He saying that This is our first step in the coming years we will make it even more grand and historic.
Sood informed that the Delhi Government has constructed more than 31 Chhath Ghats across Janakpuri this year a feat unmatched in the past 27 years. These ghats will allow devotees to perform rituals in a safe, clean, and peaceful environment. He added that the government has made comprehensive arrangements for cleanliness, security, lighting, drinking water, tents, medical aid, and emergency response teams at all ghats to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience.
He further mentioned that today marks the third day of the Chhath festival when fasting women and devotees offer arghya (water oblation) to the setting sun, praying for the happiness and prosperity of their families.
He also said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is committed to celebrating all religious and community festivals with equal respect and support. Chhath Puja, which holds deep emotional and spiritual significance for thousands of migrant families in Delhi, has now become an integral part of the city’s cultural identity.
He added that when thousands of devotees gather on Delhi’s ghats to offer prayers to the Sun, the sight becomes a magnificent confluence of Delhi’s cultural unity and folk traditions.
Sood further said that the festival of Chhath inspires positivity, vitality, and spiritual awakening through the worship of the Sun. Offering arghya to the Sun is not only an act of gratitude toward nature but also a symbol of awakening the inner light within ourselves.
