In a decisive push for cleaner air and better urban hygiene, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has accelerated its sanitation infrastructure using ₹33.74 crore sanctioned under the Central Government’s National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
With the full amount already received, MCD has operationalized 28 multifunctional sprinklers across the city, targeting dust suppression and particulate control. These machines are actively deployed in high-traffic zones and pollution-prone corridors.
The corporation is also set to procure 14 Mechanical Road Sweeping Machines (MRSMs), with a fresh tender issued and Letter of Intent released on 15 October 2025. The delay in procurement—originally initiated in FY 2022–23—was due to the absence of a Standing Committee, which was only constituted in June 2025. The machines are expected to be delivered within the next three months, along with a 1-year Comprehensive Operation & Maintenance Contract (COMC)
Out of savings, MCD is installing sprinkling systems on 27 truck-mounted water tankers, further enhancing its dust mitigation arsenal. Meanwhile, the remaining ₹8.25 crore from the NCAP allocation will be utilized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for complementary air-quality initiatives.
MCD officials reaffirmed their commitment to transparent fund utilization and strategic deployment of resources to combat urban pollution. The initiative marks a significant step in aligning municipal action with national environmental goals.
