In a major push towards cleaner and greener urban sanitation, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Saturday flagged off 135 electric sanitation vehicles at Sector 10, Rohini. The new fleet will strengthen waste collection operations across the Rohini, Narela, Civil Lines, and Keshav Puram zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Of the 135 vehicles, 46 will be deployed in the Rohini Zone, enhancing door-to-door waste collection and sanitation services. The event was attended by local councillors, senior MCD officials, and Rohini Zone Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the induction of electric sanitation vehicles marks a significant milestone in modernising Delhi’s waste management infrastructure. He said the initiative has been launched under the Delhi government’s new Electric Vehicle Policy and aligns with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s vision of building a clean and green capital.

The Mayor stated that the MCD has been strengthening its sanitation infrastructure with modern equipment to improve cleanliness across the city. He added that sanitation resources are being expanded in a planned manner across all MCD zones to make waste collection more efficient.
Highlighting the environmental benefits of the initiative, Wahi said electric sanitation vehicles will reduce fuel consumption while making door-to-door waste collection more effective. He described the move as a historic step towards sustainable urban sanitation.
The Mayor also urged citizens to support the cleanliness drive by following the Solid Waste Management Rules, which mandate segregation of waste into four categories. He stressed that proper segregation and disposal of wet waste at the source can significantly reduce the burden on landfill sites.
Reiterating that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility, Wahi called upon Delhi residents to actively participate in the campaign, saying public cooperation is essential to achieving the vision of a clean, green, and beautiful Delhi.
