About 11,500 MT of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per day is generated within the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Delhi . MCD operates 4 WTE plants at Narela-Bawana (1300 TPD), Okhla (1550 TPD), Tehkhand (2000 TPD) and Ghazipur (1300 TPD). with a total processing Capacity of 6550 TPD. In addition to this MCD also operates some other decentralised processing facilities. Still there is a gap of 4712 TPD which is being dumped at 3 dumpsites at Bhalswa, Okhla & Ghazipur.
Since 2019 MCD is carrying out biomining of legacy waste at 3 dumpsites and subsequently 25 acres of land has been reclaimed at Bhalswa Dumpsite and 10 acres of land has been reclaimed at Okhla Dumpsite. At Singhola MCD has reclaimed approx. 7.2 acres of land after biomining of silt waste. Furthermore there is land of 10 acres at Integrated MSW Processing Facility at Narela-Bawana.
In order to bridge this gap and to avoid accumulation of fresh waste at the existing landfill sites it has been decided to develop 4 new Fresh Waste Processing Facilities at Bhalswa with capacity to process 1,800 TPD;Singhola with capacity of 700TPD;Okhla with capacity of 1,400TPD and Narela–Bawana with capacity of 1,200 TPD. Total cost for setting up these 4 new MSW processing facilities will be Rs 361.42 CR.
