Tackling Dog-Bite Menace: MCD to Create Feeding Points in All Wards

Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, has directed officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to establish three to four designated feeding points for stray dogs in every ward, in consultation with local municipal councillors.

The move aims to regulate stray dog feeding practices, reduce street-level conflicts among dogs, and help prevent dog-bite incidents. Officials have been instructed to ensure proper monitoring and maintenance at these feeding points and to submit a detailed implementation report within one week.

Sharma highlighted the growing stray dog population and increasing dog-bite cases in Delhi as urgent concerns. In response, the MCD is intensifying sterilization and vaccination efforts at its Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres. A dedicated sub-committee is already working on strategies to manage the issue effectively.

She also cited the Supreme Court’s directive urging immediate action, and noted that unregulated feeding in public areas often leads to dog pack formations and accidents.

Reaffirming the MCD’s commitment to a permanent solution, Sharma urged councillors, residents, and voluntary organizations to support the initiative for better public and animal welfare.
