New Delhi, September 1 — Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar convened an open house meeting with sanitation supervisory staff at the Civic Centre’s Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium on August 31, underscoring the importance of ownership, accountability and teamwork in keeping Delhi clean.
The session allowed sanitation staff to directly share concerns and suggestions with the Commissioner. Additional Commissioner Shri Arun Kumar Mishra and Deputy Commissioners from all 12 zones were also present.
Key Highlights from the Meeting
- Monsoon performance: Khirwar praised staff for maintaining cleanliness during what he described as one of the best monsoon seasons in recent years.
- Upcoming challenges: With the BRICS Summit, festive season and winter approaching, he called for intensified sanitation efforts, especially to tackle pollution during winter.
- Citizen engagement: He urged staff to treat social media complaints as opportunities for improvement, noting that citizens also use these platforms to appreciate good work.
- Technology deployment: New machines including mechanical road sweepers and litter pickers have been introduced to strengthen operations and reduce manual burden.
- Accountability: Deputy Commissioners were directed to ensure full attendance and effective deployment of staff, with strict action against habitual defaulters and recognition for dedicated workers.
Commissioner Khirwar reiterated that sanitation is the Corporation’s most fundamental responsibility and called for coordinated, sincere and honest efforts to ensure visible improvements on the ground. “Every employee must contribute with dedication, honesty and a sense of ownership to make Delhi cleaner and better prepared for the challenges of the coming months,” he said.
