New Delhi, September 7, 2026: Following the tragic incident in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor and DDMA Chairman Taranjeet Singh Sandhu convened a high-level emergency meeting with senior officials from the DDMA, DDA, MCD, and Delhi Police. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Urban Development & Home Minister Ashish Sood, and other top administrators.
Among those present were Dilraj Kaur, Secretary (Education & Higher Education), the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Sachin Rana, Special Secretary (Home), Principal Director of Delhi Fire Service, CP Anurag Kumar, and NDRF Chief Piyush Anand.
The meeting focused on urgent measures to:
- Regulate PG accommodations and curb unauthorized operations.
- Crack down on illegal constructions and unsafe activities across the capital.
- Deploy police and NDRF units strategically to reduce emergency response times.
- Address the residential facility gap for students in Delhi University and government colleges, with discussions on possible FAR (Floor Area Ratio) relaxations.
- Implement regulation of coaching institutes based on the Justice Guava Committee’s recommendations.
- Conduct a city-wide safety audit of coaching institute buildings, to be completed within a strict timeframe.
