With the objective of making the historic Red Fort and its surrounding areas clean, beautiful and environmentally sustainable, the Old Delhi Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), in collaboration with Vrikshit Foundation, organised a mega cleanliness drive on Sunday. Around 400 volunteers associated with Vrikshit Foundation participated enthusiastically in the campaign, giving the cleanliness initiative a strong sense of public participation.
During the campaign, extensive cleanliness activities were carried out at the Red Fort and various adjoining areas. A large quantity of waste collected during the drive was removed from the site through approximately 10 auto-tippers. As part of the cleanliness initiative, a special cleanliness drive was also undertaken at Angoori Bagh Park, located near the Red Fort. Along with cleanliness activities, plantation was also carried out at Angoori Bagh Park with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and increasing green cover. On the occasion, volunteers expressed their commitment towards cleanliness and environmental protection and motivated people to keep public places clean.
The mega cleanliness drive was organised under the guidance of Ms. Kanika, Deputy Commissioner, Old Delhi Zone. Local Municipal Councillor Shri Suman Kumar Gupta also participated in the campaign and encouraged the volunteers. He appealed to citizens not to litter public places and to extend their cooperation to MCD in keeping their surroundings clean.
During the campaign, special emphasis was also laid on creating awareness among citizens and tourists about cleanliness. People were urged to dispose of waste responsibly, refrain from littering public places, and actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the Red Fort, a national heritage site, and the Old Delhi area.
Kanika, Deputy Commissioner, Old Delhi Zone, said that maintaining cleanliness at historic sites is not only the responsibility of the civic body but also a collective responsibility of citizens, social organisations and various institutions. She said that public participation-based cleanliness drives can not only make cleanliness efforts at public places more effective but can also help bring about lasting behavioural changes among citizens towards cleanliness.
The joint initiative of MCD and Vrikshit Foundation conveyed a strong message of cleanliness, public participation and environmental conservation, demonstrating that collective efforts can play an effective role in making DelhiтАЩs historic and public spaces clean, beautiful and green.
