Rescue teams battling through the debris of a collapsed building in Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area recovered another body on Saturday, pushing the death toll in the tragedy higher as search operations continued in the narrow lanes of Sattara Gali near Ajmeri Gate.
Officials said the latest victim, identified as Pankaj Sharma (40), son of Hazari Sharma and a native of Hanuman Nagar village in Bihar’s Khagaria district, was found during an intensive search of the rubble. His mortal remains were shifted for post-mortem and legal formalities.
Earlier in the operation, rescuers had recovered an unidentified body from the debris, taking the total number of people traced from the site to five. Authorities said efforts were underway to establish the identity of the unidentified deceased.
With the latest recovery, a total of five persons have been rescued or recovered from the collapsed structure, including three deceased and two injured individuals. The injured victims have received medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, officials said.
The bodies recovered from the site have been transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for necessary procedures.
Teams from multiple emergency agencies remain deployed at the scene, using specialized equipment to sift through the debris amid concerns that more victims could still be trapped beneath the rubble. The congested nature of the locality has posed significant challenges to the ongoing rescue effort.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the collapse. Rescue operations are continuing, and officials said further updates would be issued as the search progresses.
