Delhi Mayor Chairs High-Level Monsoon Preparedness Review; MCD Activates “Operation Mission Monsoon” to Tackle Waterlogging

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Tuesday chaired a high-level inter-departmental review meeting at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi headquarters, Dr. S.P.M. Civic Centre, to assess preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season and strengthen measures to prevent waterlogging across the city.


The meeting, held under “Operation Mission Monsoon”, focused on improving coordination among departments, reviewing desilting work, and identifying vulnerable waterlogging points across Delhi to ensure swift and effective response during heavy rainfall.


Multiple agencies review preparedness measures
Senior officials from key departments and agencies, including the Public Works Department Delhi, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Jal Board, Flood and Irrigation Department, Indian Railways, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, participated in the discussions.


Key issues deliberated included drainage management, emergency response planning, identification of chronic flooding zones, and strengthening inter-agency coordination mechanisms.


Mayor stresses readiness and coordination
Addressing the meeting, Mayor Pravesh Wahi directed all departments to ensure full operational readiness of water pumps, dewatering machines, motors, and emergency response equipment ahead of the monsoon season.


He also instructed agencies to conduct thorough inspections and testing of all machinery to avoid last-minute failures during heavy rainfall. Emphasizing proactive planning, he asked departments to prepare area-specific action plans based on past monsoon challenges and ensure continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations.


Focus on desilting and real-time coordination
Officials reviewed the status of ongoing desilting operations and discussed mechanisms for real-time monitoring, faster inter-departmental communication, and immediate resolution of waterlogging complaints.


All participating agencies assured full cooperation and commitment towards ensuring smooth monsoon management and minimizing public inconvenience across the capital.



The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, DEMS Committee Chairman Sandeep Kapoor, Sanjeev Khirwar, along with senior officials from MCD and other departments.
