Yesterday, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi gave a fresh impetus to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s healthcare services by inaugurating a 13-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mata Gujri Hospital in Tilak Nagar. The facility will provide critical care and monitoring for newborns within the hospital itself.
Alongside the NICU, the Mayor also dedicated several modern medical devices to the public, including a Colour Doppler Ultrasound machine, C-Arm machine for orthopaedic surgeries, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and a Phaco machine for eye-related treatments. These additions are expected to significantly enhance patient care.
A special ward for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and for MCD employees was also inaugurated.
Mayor Wahi announced that a CT Scan machine would soon be installed at the hospital. He highlighted that e-registration facilities are now available, and a colour-coded system ensures daily change of bed sheets. With over 1,600 patients visiting the OPD daily, the expansion aims to make healthcare services more accessible and better organised.
Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, said that integrating modern technology into healthcare is the need of the hour, and these devices will improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
The programme was attended by senior MCD officials, including Additional Commissioner (Health) Pankaj Naresh Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner (West Zone) Colonel Vinod Atri, Director of Hospital Administration Dr. Anuj Narayan Mathur, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Alka Gupta.
