The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday launched a special educational visit programme for primary school students to the Planetarium and the Prime Ministers’ Museum, aimed at promoting experiential learning and scientific awareness among children.
The initiative was launched by Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, who said the programme draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal in Mann Ki Baat, encouraging young people to visit planetariums and learn about India’s achievements in science and technology.
Speaking on the occasion, Wahi said education should go beyond textbooks and classrooms, emphasizing the importance of practical exposure in the overall development of students. He noted that the visits would help children explore the world of space science while also learning about the contributions of India’s Prime Ministers and the country’s developmental journey.
“The objective is to nurture curiosity, scientific temperament and a deeper understanding of India’s history and progress among students,” the Mayor said.
Chairman of the MCD Education Committee Yogesh Verma said the civic body has become the first educational institution in the country to translate the Prime Minister’s message into action by organizing planetarium visits for municipal school students.
He said the educational tour offers students an opportunity to gain knowledge about science, space exploration, technological advancements and India’s democratic history through exhibits, photographs, digital installations and scientific presentations.

According to Verma, the programme is being conducted with the support of the SAARD Foundation and has placed no financial burden on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. A total of 200 students participated in the visit on Friday, while another batch of 200 students will undertake the tour on Saturday.
The initiative includes free transportation, guided tours and refreshments for all participating students.
Senior MCD officials, including Director of Education Nikhil Tiwari, teachers and other dignitaries, were present during the programme.
