MCD plans to develop a women’s park in every ward, surveys to identify suitable locations

New Delhi, October 13. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to develop a dedicated women’s park in every ward to provide safe and convenient spaces for women to walk and spend time, Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said on Tuesday.

Sharma held a meeting with Additional Commissioner Sanjeev Mittal and officials of the horticulture department to discuss the initiative and directed them to survey all zones to identify existing parks and other suitable locations for the proposed facilities.

Officials have been asked to assess the feasibility of developing a women’s park in each ward and take necessary steps to implement the plan, according to a press release issued by the MCD.

The meeting also discussed measures to conserve rainwater and improve groundwater levels through the installation of rainwater harvesting systems in MCD parks.

Sharma directed officials to assess the feasibility of installing such systems in parks across all wards.

The meeting also reviewed tree pruning, the management and disposal of green waste, and the regular upkeep of parks. Officials were instructed to ensure cleanliness, proper maintenance and scientific disposal of green waste.

Emphasising the need to improve public amenities, Sharma also called for better walking tracks in parks to make them more convenient for residents.

She directed officials to implement the instructions within stipulated timelines and ensure regular monitoring of park development and maintenance, the release said.
