One Dead, Two Injured After Building Collapses During Demolition in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar

A 40-year-old labourer lost his life while two others sustained minor injuries after a 1.5-storey building collapsed during demolition work in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar on Friday afternoon.

According to police, a PCR call regarding the incident was received at PS Swaroop Nagar at around 3:17 PM. Police teams, along with multiple rescue agencies, rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue operation.

Rescue efforts were carried out jointly by the Fire Brigade, SDM, DDMA, MCD, TDPL and NDRF. Authorities found that three labourers had been trapped under the debris.

Two workers, aged 28 and 30 years, were rescued with minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition. A third labourer, a 40-year-old man, was pulled out in critical condition and shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that the accident occurred while demolition and debris removal work was underway. During the operation, a portion of the roof of the old structure suddenly gave way, trapping the workers beneath the rubble.

The District Crime Team inspected the site and is examining the circumstances surrounding the collapse. Police said the matter is under verification, and further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law after completion of the inquiry.
