Major Clean-Up Drive: MCD Strengthens Sanitation Across 12 Zone

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its efforts to mitigate dust pollution and strengthen the sanitation system across the city through a series of targeted measures, including enhanced mechanical road sweeping, deployment of water sprinklers and anti-smog guns, road repairs, and additional sanitation resources.

As part of its dust mitigation strategy, MCD has deployed 52 Mechanical Road Sweepers (MRS) to undertake sweeping operations on PWD roads measuring approximately 1,450 km (running length) with a width above 60 feet. With the existing fleet, around 3,400 km of road length is being mechanically swept on alternate days. To further enhance efficiency, the operational duration of MRS has been extended by an additional two hours.

These machines are being supplemented by around 600 dedicated sanitation staff, who are deployed to remove municipal solid waste, plastic waste, and litter from major roads, ensuring visible improvement in cleanliness and dust control.

MCD has also taken significant steps to improve road infrastructure. During the period April 2025 to February 2026, roads covering 431 km have been resurfaced or strengthened. Furthermore, MCD has identified approximately 1,300 km of roads for repair and strengthening.

In addition, MCD has undertaken extensive pothole repair works. Between April 2025 and February 2026, a total of 29,449 potholes covering an area of 67,664 square metres have been repaired. The corporation has reiterated that identification and repair of newly formed potholes is a continuous and priority process.

To further address dust pollution, MCD has deployed 167 water sprinklers and 28 mobile anti-smog guns (ASGs) across various roads in the city. Additionally, 20 anti-smog guns have been installed at key MCD facilities, including Construction & Demolition (C&D) plants, Sanitary Landfill (SLF) sites, and Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plants.

To further strengthen the sanitation system across the city, MCD has deployed additional resources in all 12 zones. This includes the deployment of around 220 additional machines such as Hywas, loaders, tippers, JCBs, and other equipment, aimed at improving waste management and overall cleanliness.

These concerted efforts reflect MCD’s continued commitment to improving urban cleanliness, road infrastructure, and air quality in the national capital.
