New Delhi, September 1 — The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) convened today and passed several significant proposals aimed at addressing pressing civic concerns. Chairperson Satya Sharma underscored that the Committee serves as a vital platform for democratic dialogue, ensuring councilors from both ruling and opposition benches were given full opportunity to raise issues and suggestions.
During the meeting, councillors highlighted a wide range of public interest matters — from health and sanitation to civic safety and encroachment.
Public Health Priorities
- Mosquito‑borne diseases: Officials were directed to intensify fogging in vulnerable areas and launch awareness campaigns against dengue and malaria, with councillors actively involved to strengthen outreach.
- Swine flu: In response to rising cases, Sharma instructed departments to conduct citywide awareness drives and disseminate health guidelines to citizens.
Civic Safety and Education
- Illegal play schools: The Committee ordered identification and strict action against unregistered institutions, emphasizing child safety compliance.
- Food carts and tandoors: Councillors flagged unauthorized food stalls and open tandoors on roads, citing traffic disruption and pollution. Officials were tasked with inspections and enforcement against such violations.
Urban Governance and Infrastructure
- Stray cattle: Sharma expressed concern over abandoned cows on city roads, noting accident risks. She announced that a formal request would be made to the Delhi Government for land to establish new gaushalas, providing a permanent solution.
- Parks and sanitation: Maintenance of public spaces and sanitation systems was reiterated as a priority, with directions for regular monitoring and swift grievance redressal.
Chairperson Sharma emphasized that passing proposals is only the first step — effective, time‑bound implementation is essential. “Issues related to sanitation, public health, civic safety, encroachment and public facilities directly affect the daily lives of Delhi’s citizens. The Corporation will ensure action on all these matters on a priority basis,” she said.
