MCD Civic Governance Update

Nominations for the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Special, Ad-hoc, and Statutory Committees of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were formally filed today at the Civic Centre, marking the final day of the nomination process.

The filing took place at the Municipal Secretary’s office in the presence of Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, Deputy Mayor Dr. Monika Pant, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, and several councilor’s.

The elections for these key committee positions are scheduled to begin during the first meetings of the committees on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM and Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

Mayor Pravesh Wahi extended his best wishes to the councillors who entered the fray, emphasizing that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the civic body remains committed to building a cleaner, greener, and more hygienic capital. He highlighted that nominations reflect a conscious effort to balance seniority, experience, youth, and women’s representation, ensuring that the committees benefit from both seasoned leadership and fresh energy.

Among the prominent nominations, senior councillor Mukesh Goel filed his papers for the post of Chairman of the Appointment and Promotion Committee. With 28 years of experience as a municipal councillor, Goel expressed gratitude to the BJP leadership for their trust, noting that his long tenure would strengthen the committee’s functioning.

The upcoming elections are expected to set the tone for committee leadership in the MCD, blending continuity with inclusivity to advance civic governance in Delhi.
