MCD Strengthens Door-to-Door Garbage Collection; Vehicle Fleet Expanded 2.5 Times

A day after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) rolled out 176 new sanitation vehicles in the South Zone, Mayor Pravesh Wahi reaffirmed that the initiative marks a decisive step toward strengthening Delhi’s door‑to‑door garbage collection and waste transportation system, with a focus on speed, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The vehicles, flagged off yesterday from the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre, are being deployed across five wards—Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Green Park, Greater Kailash, and C.R. Park. Of the total, 150 are primary waste collection vehicles, including 112 tippers and 38 e‑rickshaws/three‑wheelers, while 26 secondary vehicles such as refuse collectors, hook loaders, Tata‑407 trucks, JCBs, and Bobcats will enhance waste lifting and transportation capacity.

Mayor Wahi emphasized that the deployment will triple the number of primary vehicles per ward, raising the average from 10 to nearly 30, thereby improving frequency and coverage of garbage collection. He expressed confidence that the system’s waste collection capacity will increase by 2.5 times, reducing accumulation at vulnerable spots.

Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma highlighted that the addition of modern, eco‑friendly vehicles will streamline the sanitation chain from collection to transportation. Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav underscored the importance of citizen cooperation in waste segregation, while Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar noted that all vehicles are electric, contributing to both improved sanitation services and environmental protection.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Dr. Monika Pant, Standing Committee Vice‑Chairperson Satyapal Singh, Zonal Chairperson Dharamveer, Zonal Vice‑Chairperson Mamta, and senior officials, along with representatives of Renvion Company.
