New Delhi, August 29: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), West Zone, conducted a mega sanitation drive at Mahatma Gandhi Camp JJ Cluster along Road No. 77 in Punjabi Bagh on Saturday as part of the ongoing “Delhi Ko Kude Se Azadi” campaign.
The drive was carried out in coordination with the PWD, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) departments to address sanitation, waste management, drainage, road-related issues and temporary encroachments in the area.
Around 180 Safai Karmcharis and 10 Beldars were deployed during the operation, supported by MRS, water sprinklers, JCBs, Tata vehicles, tippers, cycle rickshaws and wheelbarrows. Approximately 17 tonnes of mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) was collected and removed from the JJ cluster and adjoining areas.
The sanitation operation covered nearly 1.5 km of road stretch, including sweeping and cleaning of the main road, central verge, green belt and service lanes. Major and minor drains were also cleaned, while C&D waste was removed, trees were lightly pruned and temporary encroachments were cleared.
Officials from the GNCTD inspected the site along with the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of the West Zone. The inspection reviewed the sanitation arrangements, cleanliness status and coordinated efforts of the participating agencies.
MCD said advance coordination and follow-up with sister agencies helped facilitate joint sanitation and encroachment-removal activities in the Mahatma Gandhi Camp JJ Cluster, adjoining roads and nearby areas.
The civic body said the initiative underlines its commitment to strengthening the “Delhi Ko Kude Se Azadi” campaign through sustained field-level interventions, inter-agency coordination and focused cleanliness measures in JJ clusters and other densely populated areas.
