Ahead of Winter, Delhi Administration Pushes Coordinated Drive for Cleaner Air in South Zone

In a bid to intensify Delhi’s fight against rising winter pollution, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and Secretary (Urban Development), GNCTD Vivek Pandey jointly inspected pollution hotspots in the South Zone, directing departments to strengthen coordination and enforce strict dust‑control measures.

The inspection team, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner South Zone Shashwat Saurabh and senior officials from NDMC, DDA, DPCC, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Traffic Police, and other agencies, reviewed ground‑level efforts at R.K. Puram, IIT Delhi, Sarojini Nagar, and Ring Road construction sites.

Anti‑smog guns, sprinklers, and mechanized road sweeping machines deployed at these hotspots were assessed for effectiveness. The Commissioner instructed site officials to intensify dust mitigation, penalize repeat violators, and ensure strict compliance with pollution‑control norms.

At the review meeting held later in the MCD South Zone office, Secretary Vivek Pandey emphasized continuous monitoring, inter‑departmental coordination, and prompt interventions to curb pollution. Officials were directed to carry out deep cleaning of roads, footpaths, and green belts, alongside anti‑encroachment drives to ensure safe pedestrian movement.

The joint inspection underscored the administration’s commitment to sustained, coordinated action for improving air quality across South Delhi and beyond, ahead of the winter season when pollution levels typically spike.
