Delhi Declares Public Holiday on Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki — revered as the Adikavi and author of the Ramayana — the Delhi Government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, October 7. All government offices will remain closed as the city prepares for a day of reflection, celebration, and tribute.

 CM Rekha Gupta to Join Citywide Programmes

Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta will personally participate in multiple events across Delhi, including processions, cultural gatherings, and tribute meetings. A special programme will be held on October 6 at the Delhi Secretariat, led by the Department of Social Welfare, featuring discussions on Maharishi Valmiki’s life and teachings. Social Welfare Minister  Ravindra Indraj Singh will also be in attendance.

 Valmiki’s Teachings: A Beacon of Social Justice

Speaking ahead of the celebrations, CM Gupta said: “Maharishi Valmiki was not just a literary pioneer — he was a symbol of equality, compassion, and transformative wisdom. His teachings continue to inspire a just and harmonious society.”

She reaffirmed the Delhi Government’s commitment to upliftment, education, and equal opportunity for the Dalit community, noting that the occasion is a powerful reminder of the values that bind us together.
