The remediation of Delhi’s Bhalswa Dumpsite has entered its final phase, with 99.07 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of legacy waste cleared as of July 31, 2026.
During a recent inspection, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal reviewed the progress of the cleanup and directed officials to accelerate the processing of fresh waste to ensure the site is remediated within the planned timeline.The review was attended by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner and senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. According to MCD, the remaining legacy waste at the Bhalswa Dumpsite is expected to be cleared by October 15, 2026, while all waste accumulated up to March 2026 is targeted for processing by December 31, 2026.
Emphasising the need for faster progress, the minister instructed MCD to expedite the newly awarded work for processing incoming waste at the landfill.
The move is aimed at preventing fresh accumulation while ensuring scientific waste management alongside the ongoing remediation.The Bhalswa cleanup is one of Delhi’s key environmental initiatives, with the Centre and MCD working towards eliminating decades-old waste and reclaiming landfill space through time-bound remediation
